On September 29, under the guidance of the Jiutai District People’s Government of Changchun City, Jilin Province, the “Autumn On-site Demonstration, Yield Measurement, and Tasting Event of the Jiutai Tribute Rice Raw Grain Variety Screening Base,” jointly organized by the Jiutai District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Jiutai District Grain and Material Reserves Bureau, was successfully held.

At the event, the 666.67 hectares rice microbial inoculant application area developed by BGI Bioverse was unveiled as a key demonstration site. It comprehensively showcased the practical effectiveness of microbial technology in promoting green rice cultivation, improving quality, and increasing yield, attracting widespread attention from attending experts and growers.

Field harvest data showed that rice treated with the “HuaYi” microbial inoculant achieved an actual field yield of 18,610 jin per hectare, compared with 17,540 jin per hectare in the control plots. This represents an average yield increase of 532.5 kg per hectare, corresponding to a 6.1% increase.

Earlier field observations on August 5 indicated that rice fields treated with the “HuaYi” series microbial inoculants exhibited more developed root systems, an increased number of effective tillers, and faster grain-filling rates.

These results are attributed to the presence of highly active phosphate-solubilizing and potassium-releasing bacteria in the microbial inoculant, which effectively activate soil nutrients and stimulate soil fertility potential. In addition, the synergistic effects of added organic small molecules and inorganic nutrients promote stronger roots and healthier seedlings, ultimately enhancing photosynthetic efficiency and achieving a dual breakthrough in quality improvement and yield increase.

Based on current market prices, farmers using this inoculant can achieve an average income increase of approximately RMB 125 per mu, with an input–output ratio of 1:5, demonstrating significant economic benefits. Notably, following successful yield increases in soybean and cotton in 2025, the “HuaYi” microbial inoculant has once again delivered consistent yield improvements in field crops. This further verifies its stability and broad applicability across major grain crops.

The “Jilin Changchun–BGI Bioverse Microbial Fertilizer Rice Application Project Demonstration Area” was jointly established by the Jiutai District People’s Government and BGI Bioverse. The project aims to apply advanced microbial technologies to systematically validate the comprehensive benefits of microbial inoculants in reducing fertilizer and pesticide use, improving soil quality, and enhancing crop quality. It explores a science-driven path to increasing grain production that achieves “reduced fertilizer input without yield reduction, and increased yield with greater efficiency,” providing a replicable and scalable model for advancing sustainable agricultural development.

The successful implementation of this project not only provides strong technological support for improving the quality of Jiutai Tribute Rice, but also demonstrates the tremendous potential of biotechnology in safeguarding food security and promoting sustainable agriculture, marking China’s agricultural science and technology innovation moving toward a greener and more efficient future.
