On September 9, 2026, BGI Group celebrated its 27th anniversary and held a press conference in Shenzhen under the theme “Intelligent Sensing of Life, Health Without Boundaries,” unveiling a series of new technologies, tools, and solutions covering public health, proactive health, food security, and other fields—from decoding life to safeguarding life, from empowering industries to benefiting people’s livelihoods, systematically demonstrating the complete path and ultimate human warmth of gene technology from the laboratory to every household.

As an important release in the food security segment, Dr. Wang Yayu, Director of Microecology at BGI Wanwu, officially released The Intelligent Eco-Soil Initiative System—a series of big-data-driven products and services for intelligent soil microecological detection, assessment, and improvement, helping soil health management move from experience-based judgment into a data-driven era of precision.

Decoding the Underground “Super Life Network”

Soil health is the cornerstone of human health. One gram of soil contains tens of billions of bacteria, tens of millions of fungi, and hundreds of thousands of protozoa. Day and night, they decompose, synthesize, form symbioses, and transmit signals underground, forming a super life network.

BGI has been deeply engaged in soil microecology for more than 15 years. It has accumulated more than 100,000 soil microecological samples, over 30,000 functional microbial strains, and more than 350 TB of microbial genomic data, building a globally leading soil microbial gene database. The Intelligent Eco-Soil Initiative System released this time was born precisely on this data foundation.

This system integrates four core technologies—BGI high-throughput sequencing, high-resolution mass spectrometry, soil physicochemical testing, and microscopic imaging—and performs an all-round “in-depth health check” on soil from six dimensions: nutrient and physicochemical properties, pesticide residues, microecological diversity, probiotic abundance, pathogen load, nematodes, and viruses. It outputs quantitative assessment results such as a comprehensive soil health index, and ultimately matches corresponding full-cycle crop nutrition solutions, realizing a full-chain closed loop of “sampling—testing—assessment—fertilizer formulation—customized microbial agents,” making soil health management truly evidence-based.

One Soil, One Remedy

Based on the platform’s diagnostic results, BGI tailors personalized remediation plans for different plots of land and launches multiple microbial agent products covering the full crop cycle. Three of them were highlighted at this press conference.

Huayikang® Microbial Agent

Huayikang® Microbial Agent has an effective viable bacteria count of ≥2 billion CFU/g. It prevents root rot, resists continuous cropping obstacles, enhances resistance, and promotes growth. Its core ingredient is a patented biocontrol fungus independently developed by BGI—Trichoderma harzianum. This strain can simultaneously inhibit more than 20 plant pathogens, with a soil pathogen inhibition rate of 96.48% and an in-root pathogen inhibition rate of 99.6%, and it secretes 129 active metabolites.

Field evidence shows that after applying Huayikang®, the incidence of ginseng root rot decreased by 67.3%, and the incidence of stem base rot decreased by 87.2%, achieving integrated protection that “suppresses bacteria with bacteria, improves soil, and strengthens roots.”

Huaqingwo® Microbial Agent

Huaqingwo® Microbial Agent has an effective viable bacteria count of ≥1 billion CFU/g. It activates soil, provides biological control, strengthens plant stress resistance, and nourishes and consolidates roots.

Field application results are remarkable: soybean yield in the black soil region of Northeast China increased by 9.1–18.5%; in Daming County, Hebei Province, peanut yield per mu increased by an average of 83.3 jin compared with the control field, a yield increase of 10.12%.

Huayunfeng® Color Development and Sugar Enhancement 1+1

Huayunfeng® Color Development and Sugar Enhancement 1+1 is an organic water-soluble fertilizer + microbial agent, with an effective viable bacteria count of ≥1 billion CFU/mL and 5-ALA ≥2.5 g/L. It specializes in enhancing fruit sugar, color development, and flavor. After ten years of dedicated research, BGI, relying on microbial ecological regulation technology, repeatedly screened and validated thousands of strains, ultimately achieving enrichment of sugars, aroma, and active ingredients, allowing fruits to return to their natural sweetness and fragrance.

Measured results show that the soluble solids content of fruit increased by 12.0%–24.6%, and leaf chlorophyll content increased by 25%, achieving dual improvements in crop growth and fruit quality.

From disease and pest resistance to yield increase, and then to quality upgrading, BGI uses soil microecological testing as the starting point, big-data diagnostics as the core, and customized microbial agent solutions as the means, building a comprehensive precision nutrition management system for crops and truly realizing “one soil, one remedy.”

Guarding the Land with Technology

Soil, plants, animals, and human health are fundamentally one.

From human health to soil health, the boundary of life that gene technology can perceive is constantly expanding. The true meaning of “without boundaries” lies precisely in this reverence for and protection of all life. The land is silent, yet it nurtures all things; technology is powerful, but it must ultimately benefit humanity.
