Recently, the General Office of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government jointly issued the Notice on Commending Outstanding Collectives and Individuals for Their Performance in Advancing the “Hundred Counties, Thousand Towns, Ten Thousand Villages High-Quality Development Project”. Thanks to its outstanding contributions in promoting perennial rice to support rural revitalization, BGI Bioverse was recognized as an “Outstanding Collective.” This honor not only affirms the company’s technological strength, but also highlights the responsibility and commitment of technology enterprises in serving national strategies and fulfilling social responsibility.

Innovation-Driven Development, Technology Strengthening the Foundation of Agricultural Support

Food security is a matter of paramount national importance. As an innovative entity deeply rooted in agricultural science and technology, BGI Bioverse has consistently adhered to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on agriculture, rural areas, and farmers, and conscientiously carried out Guangdong Province’s “1310” strategic deployment. Leveraging its scientific and technological innovation platforms, the company has continued to promote perennial rice independently developed by Chinese scientists—fundamentally transforming the traditional “spring planting, autumn harvesting” rice-farming model and achieving an agricultural production breakthrough of “one planting, multiple years of harvest.” This innovative technology offers farmers a new rice-growing model that saves labor, effort, and costs, providing strong technological support for improving agricultural productivity and truly putting into practice the principles of “storing grain in technology” and “enriching people through technology.”

Rooted in the Fields, Delivering a Practical Answer Sheet for Agricultural Revitalization

During the implementation of the “Hundred Thousand Ten Thousand Project,” BGI Bioverse actively responded to the calls of the provincial party committee and government by establishing demonstration bases, organizing agricultural technology training, and exploring practical initiatives such as the “Perennial Rice +” model, ensuring that technology truly takes root in local communities. Technical teams from BGI Bioverse have gone deep into counties, towns, and villages across the province, building an extensive network of perennial rice demonstration bases. Through large-scale promotion and demonstration, perennial rice has now basically covered all cities and counties in Guangdong, with five high-standard “hundred-mu model fields” established in Heyuan, Shantou, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, and Shenzhen, forming a coordinated development pattern across northern, eastern, western Guangdong, and the Greater Bay Area.

In addition, the “one planting, multiple harvests” characteristic of perennial rice has opened up new pathways for developing integrated ecological farming systems such as “rice–fish symbiosis” and “rice–insect co-cultivation,” as well as emerging business models including “+ agriculture, culture, and tourism,” “+ agricultural technology services,” and “+ local specialty industries.” These innovations provide farmers with new ideas to broaden income channels, achieving the unity of economic, ecological, and social benefits, and truly enabling technology to empower rural revitalization in a tangible way.

Looking ahead, BGI Bioverse will continue to focus on tackling “bottleneck” technologies in agriculture, accelerate the transformation of scientific research achievements from laboratories to fields, and demonstrate greater impact on the journey of safeguarding national food security and comprehensively advancing rural revitalization.
