BGI Group Chairman Wang Jian Visits Yunnan University

Recently, Wang Jian, Chairman and Co-founder of BGI Group, led a delegation to visit Yunnan University, where they held discussions with Ma Wenhui, President of Yunnan University, Peng Yunzhu, Vice President, as well as heads of relevant departments and colleges.

The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the promotion and industrial development of perennial rice technology, cooperation with affiliated hospitals, interdisciplinary joint research, and collaborative talent cultivation, reaching a consensus on further advancing substantive cooperation.

Both sides stated that through strategic cooperation, they will leverage their respective strengths to jointly serve national strategies and regional development. They will work together to promote brand upgrading and industrialization of “Perennial Rice” and “Changsheng Rice”; rely on the clinical resources of Yunnan University’s affiliated hospitals and BGI’s cutting-edge technologies to collaborate in areas such as high-throughput sequencing, medical big data, and AI-assisted diagnosis; give full play to Yunnan University’s interdisciplinary strengths combined with BGI Group’s capabilities in gene sequencing, automated platforms, and life science big data to jointly build high-level research platforms and conduct collaborative research in frontier fields such as deep space, deep sea, and plateau adaptation; and co-establish the “BGI–Yunnan University Innovation Program” to explore an integrated bachelor-master-doctoral talent cultivation model and foster top innovative talents in the life sciences.
