BGI Group Strengthens Cooperation with Central Asian and Caucasus Countries

In mid-July, Yin Ye, CEO and Executive Director of BGI Group, visited the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to discuss strengthening cooperation with local partners and leveraging genetic technology to enhance the well-being of local populations.


In Kazakhstan, Yin Ye, along with Kunsulu Zakariya, Advisor to the Kazakh President for Innovations and Science, and Akmaral Alnazarova, Minister of Healthcare, inaugurated the Astana Genetic Center. This center, established through collaboration between BGI Genomics (a subsidiary of BGI Group) and local partners, will provide services such as non-invasive prenatal testing and newborn screening. It will also facilitate academic exchanges and train local genomics experts.

Yin Ye also met Nurbek Sayasat, Minister of Science and Higher Education, and visited various institutions, including the Kazakh Invest, the National Agency for the Development of Innovations “QAZINNOVATIONS” JSC, Qazaqstan Investment Corporation, and Nazarbayev University. He delivered a keynote speech titled "The Past, Present, and Future of BGI" at the National Center for Biotechnology.

In Uzbekistan, Yin Ye met with Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Minister of Agriculture. He visited the Ministry of Health, the National Academy of Sciences, and other governmental departments. He also visited local partners and reviewed project progress at the joint venture GenScreen, holding discussions with all staff members.

In Azerbaijan, Yin Ye delivered a keynote speech at the Azerbaijan Thalassemia Center, and visited local hospitals, and clinical laboratories.

Yin Ye expressed that Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan have fast socio-economic development and a strong eagerness to advance life sciences and healthcare applications. Emphasizing BGI Group's mission of "Omics for All," Yin affirmed BGI Group's commitment to further cooperation with these nations, aiming to improve public health, enhance scientific exchange, foster local talent, and support local capacities in maternal and child health, early cancer screening, and rare disease diagnosis and treatment.
