On November 13, 2023, BGI College, in collaboration with the Mammoth Foundation, launched the BGI Serbia-China Scholarship to support students, scholars, and researchers from Serbia to engage in educational and academic activities at BGI in China. The Scholarship offers support and incentives for the exchange of knowledge and expertise and enables talent from Serbia to gain an international perspective in the life sciences field.
The details are as follows:
Coverage and Eligibility
The scholarship consists of two categories: Travel Awards and Monthly Stipend Supplement (For Students), covering costs related to the following activities and tasks from November 2023 to November 2028.
1. Travel Awards
The Travel Awards will provide travel subsidy of Euro 1,000 for each of the selected Serbian students/scholars to participate in exchanges at BGI in China. Selection will be based on the applicants' backgrounds and specific circumstances.
Applicants from the following programs are eligible to apply:
Serbian students who have been admitted to the Exchange/Internship Program at BGI in China (includes short-term stay and long-term stay at BGI in China).
Serbian students admitted to the cooperative programs between BGI and Chinese universities (long-term stay at BGI in China: 24 months and above).
Serbian postdoctoral candidates who are admitted to the BGI Postdoctoral program (long-term stay at BGI in China: 18-24 months).
Serbian scientists/researchers/students who are invited to BGI workshops and symposia held in China (short-term stay at BGI in China).
2. Monthly Stipend Supplement (For Students)
The Monthly Stipend Supplement is primarily intended for Serbian students participating in the BGI Exchange/Internship program (long-term stay at BGI in China: 12 months and above) and Serbian students admitted to the cooperative programs between BGI and Chinese universities (long-term stay at BGI in China: 24 months and above).
Each year, the scholarships for students will be awarded to the selected master's or doctoral students enrolled in the cooperative programs between BGI and Chinese universities, and/or students enrolled to the BGI Exchange/Internship Program. Each awardee will receive an additional 300 euros/month to supplement their initial stipend. Awardees can receive this supplement for a maximum of 2 years.
Applicants for the following programs are eligible to apply:
Serbian students who have been admitted to the Exchange/Internship Program at BGI in China (long-term stay at BGI in China: 12 months and above).
Serbian students admitted to the cooperative programs between BGI and Chinese universities (long-term stay at BGI in China: 24 months and above).

1. Curriculum Vitae
2. Motivation Letter (including why you want to participate in BGI projects or BGI events, a description of your current research project or study program, etc.)
3. An Electronic Copy of a Diploma or Degree Certificate for your completed degrees
4. Academic Transcripts (for students)
5. Offer Letter (your offer letter to participate in BGI projects or BGI events)
6. Information of Two Referees (including full name, institute, title/position, contact email)
The email subject should be in the format (Name + Affiliated Institution + Intended BGI Project + Type of Scholarship Applied For), for example:
Ana + University of Belgrade + Bioinformatic class in Nov. + Travel award
Note:
The applicant must be admitted by the programs mentioned above.
The number of awardees for each category will be determined by the Evaluation Committee based on the annual application submissions.

Applications are accepted throughout the year; the scholarship selection takes place twice a year, normally in June and December.
Important upcoming deadlines to keep in mind:
1. Applications submitted before December 15, 2023, will be notified of the selection results around January 15, 2024;
2. Applications submitted before May 15, 2024, will be notified around June 15, 2024.
