The China National GeneBank Sequence Archive Is Recommended by Cell Press

The China National GeneBank (CNGB) Sequence Archive (CNSA), which is a system for data preservation, sharing, and application, has recently been recommended by Cell Press as a data-type-specific repository for genomics and functional genomics data. 

 

This places CNSA alongside other international repositories recommended by Cell Press, including the DNA DataBank of Japan (DDBJ), the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA), the U.S. National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and the China National Genomics Data Center (NGDC).

Established in 2011, CNGB is a world-leading national-level integrated gene bank, accessible to the public. The CNGB is independently operated by BGI-Research under contract with the government, a model similar to the government owned, contractor operated model used by U.S. National Labs.

 

This inclusion signifies that Cell Press officially recognizes CNSA, highlighting their approval and recommendation of CNSA. Global researchers submitting their manuscripts to Cell Press journals now have the option to archive and share their scientific data with CNSA, further emphasizing the credibility and value placed upon CNSA.

Cell Press selects recommended repositories following science community-agreed criteria and general guidance, which highlights the supports and recognitions within the repositories’ scientific communities, the implementation of FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) Data Guiding Principles, and open access without unnecessary restrictions.

 

CNSA is committed to the open sharing of multi-omics data, including genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics. The system provides global researchers with secure, stable, and convenient data archiving services, promoting the use and reuse of multi-omics data, and advancing the development of global life sciences.

 

As of August 2023, CNSA has archived 11,691 TB of multi-omics data and supports the submission and sharing of scientific research data from over 400 research institutions worldwide. The data supports the publication of 1,229 papers in 353 journals, including world-renowned ones such as The LancetScience, and Cell.

 

CNSA has previously received recognition from multiple international publishers and journals, including Wiley, Oxford, and the Science series. Its inclusion by Cell Press marks another international recognition of CNSA in data governance and open scientific data practices.
