On December 13th, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Province, Pakistan, led a delegation from the Punjab provincial government to visit BGI Group’s Global Headquarters in Shenzhen and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering areas such as construction of medical testing platform and prevention and control of diseases.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Wang Jian, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BGI Group, Yin Ye, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of BGI Group, Zhao Lijian, CEO of BGI Genomics, Li Ning, Deputy General Manager of BGI Genomics, Xiong Tao, Vice President for Global Development of BGI Group, Cao Sujie, the Southeast Asia Regional General Manager of BGI Group, Mao Zhixia, South Asia Regional General Manager of BGI Genomics, among others.

During the visit, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration in genomics, precision medicine, and agriculture, with a particular focus on the management, planning, and development of medical infrastructure and diagnostic initiatives.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif acknowledged and commended BGI Group for its contributions to public health initiatives both in China and internationally, which have significantly benefited local communities in different areas. She expressed appreciation for BGI Group's efforts in strengthening Pakistan's public health system and emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration to address the province's growing medical needs.
Wang Jian affirmed BGI Group’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in developing a more precise, accessible, and comprehensive public health system. He emphasized BGI Group's dedication to fostering talent exchange, providing training in relevant fields, and leveraging genetic technology to benefit the people of Pakistan.
The MoU focused on laboratory construction, disease screening and prevention, and talent training, aiming to enhance public health standards in Punjab Province. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Senior Minister of the Government of Punjab (GoPb), and Mao Zhixia, South Asia General Manager of BGI Genomics, signed the MoU, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Chairman Wang Jian witnessed the signing ceremony.
