BGI Group Executives Visit Saudi Arabia, Achieve Milestones in Healthcare, Innovation, and Talent Development

May 05, 2025 Views:

From late April to early May, BGI Group executives, led by Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Wang Jian, completed a successful visit to Saudi Arabia, advancing strategic partnerships in healthcare, scientific innovation, and talent development. This visit marks a new chapter in BGI Group’s collaboration with Saudi Arabia, supporting value-based healthcare, genomics-driven public health, and international education.

Driving Value-Based Transformation in Healthcare

In the healthcare sector, Wang Jian revisited the consensus established during last year’ s visit by the official Saudi delegation to the BGI Group global headquarters. Working closely with the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH), the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), the National Unified Procurement Company (NUPCO), and the National Health Holding Company (HHC), the parties further defined the framework and roadmap for collaboration on key projects, including the optimization of Saudi Arabia’s national healthcare service system. BGI Group emphasized its commitment to leveraging its technological strengths through partnerships within Saudi Arabia's healthcare system, aiming to support the achievement of universal health goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.

Building Genomics Ecosystems and Innovation

The delegation held high-level discussions with the Saudi Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA) and leading Saudi biotechnology funds, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as genomics and the integration of biotechnology with information technology. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in jointly building research platforms and translating technological achievements, working together to explore innovative solutions in life sciences and inject new momentum into Saudi Arabia’s National Biotechnology Strategy.

Fostering Global Networks for Talent Development

BGI Group held comprehensive discussions with Saudi Arabia’s top university - King Saud University - to revisit and advance the joint development of genomics and precision medicine courses, as well as collaborative training programs for international students. A memorandum of understanding was signed. Both sides will leverage the educational resources and platform strengths of BGI Group and Saudi universities to launch a series of talent development initiatives, aiming to cultivate high-level professionals with international perspectives and innovative capabilities for the biomedical sector in Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East region.
