The newly released rankings are based on Nature Index data from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Among the top 10 global biological sciences corporate institutions, BGI is the only institution from China to make the list. Of the others, five are from the United States, two from Switzerland, one from the United Kingdom, and one from France.

This internationally recognized leadership in biological sciences research as a corporate institution is an outcome of BGI’s deep involvement in life sciences research, consistently producing internationally influential scientific results based on its independently developed multi-omics technologies, including genomics, cell omics, and spatial omics.

In 2024, BGI published 465 research papers, including 85 papers in ‘CNNS’ publications (the leading academic journals Cell, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Science, and their related publications, if any), with 14 papers in flagship journals. As of June 13, 2025, BGI has published a total of 5,686 papers, including 699 ‘CNNS’ articles, with 174 published in flagship journals.

BGI remains committed to bringing scientific achievements into practical applications, advancing the field of life sciences, and providing robust scientific support for its mission of "Omics for All."
