Fortune Magazine Names BGI Group to 2025 Fortune China Tech 50 List

August 21, 2025 Views:

On August 21st, Fortune magazine released its 2025 China Tech 50 list. BGI Group was among the 50 companies selected because of its continuous innovation and breakthroughs in core life science technologies, as well as its outstanding contributions to global public health and food security.

BGI Group was one of the 50 companies included in the 2025 China Tech 50 list released by Fortune magazine.

The list aims to spotlight Chinese companies that are making important contributions to innovative technology development and having a global influence. Companies are selected based on four major criteria: global economic impact; technological innovation and sustained R&D investment; establishing core technology superiority; and active social impact.

As a globally leader in life sciences, BGI has always focused on its vision of Omics for All. This selection for the Fortune China Tech 50 is a strong recognition of BGI’s integrated “industry-academia-research” development model, its technological innovation capability, and global approach.

Over the past 25 years, BGI has developed its own internationally recognized sequencing technology, providing powerful tools for clinical diagnostics, new drug development, and precision agriculture. This has brought cutting-edge genome sequencing technology into daily life for ordinary people.

To truly popularize genomic technology, BGI continuously advances the transformation of cutting-edge technologies from laboratory settings to real-life applications. In medical health, BGI emphasizes “prevention over treatment” and continually pushes the boundaries through technological innovation.

In agricultural breeding, BGI and Yunnan University have promoted perennial rice technology, offering simplicity, high yields, and low carbon emissions, with both economic and ecological benefits. Currently, perennial rice has been trialed in over 130 locations across 11 countries, helping to address global food security challenges.

Looking ahead, BGI will continue to explore the frontiers of life sciences, promote the transformation of scientific achievements, and work with global partners to build a shared future for human health, empowering sustainable development in the life sciences industry.
