BGI Group Inks Cooperation with University of Pécs on Development and Innovation for Genomics Research

On Nov 29, Wang Jian, Chairman and Co-founder of BGI Group, visited the University of Pécs, Hungary, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the university rector, Dr. Attila Miseta, on strategic cooperation in advancing genomics research development and innovation. Hungary Deputy State Secretary for Innovation of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology Tibor Gulyás, Head of the National Laboratory on Human Reproduction Emeritus Professor Dr. Gábor L. Kovács, Head of the National Laboratory of Virology Professor Dr. Ferenc Jakab, and Co-founder of BGI Group Liu Siqi, attended the signing ceremony.

According to the MoU, the two parties will carry out research cooperation in the field of life sciences and joint talent training, accelerate the implementation of multi-omics solutions in healthcare, and promote disease screening and prevention programs for public health.

Dr. Miseta acknowledged the progress of the cooperation between the two parties and reaffirmed that education, research, and innovation are important drivers for the development of the industry. The cooperation between the University of Pécs and BGI Group will achieve greater success in the field of healthcare. 


Professor Kovács said that BGI is at the forefront of the world in the field of genomic and genetic research, and major breakthroughs cannot be achieved without the use of innovative technologies.


Wang Jian said that BGI Group is very pleased to cooperate with the University of Pécs to work together on improving the health and well-being of the people and promote genomics technology to benefit mankind.


The University of Pécs is one of the most esteemed and the oldest universities in Hungary. It hosts two national laboratories, the National Laboratory on Human Reproduction, and the National Laboratory of Virology. The Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility of the University of Pécs has the most advanced genetic sequencing laboratory infrastructure in Hungary and is the leading institute of the Hungarian National Genome Program.
