On November 19th, Clarivate Analytics announced its Highly Cited Researchers list for 2024, recognizing three distinguished researchers from BGI Group: Huanming Yang , Co-founder and Member of the Board of Directors of BGI Group and Director-General of BGI; Xun Xu, Executive Director of BGI Group and Director of BGI-Research; and Karsten Kristiansen, Professor at BGI-Research.
The annual Clarivat Highly Cited Researchers list details the influential researchers at universities, research institutes and commercial organizations around the world who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their fields of research.
In 2024, Clarivate recognized 6,636 Highly Cited Researchers from more than 1,200 institutions across 59 nations and regions. The organization particularly highlighted BGI among leading organizations conducting groundbreaking work across diverse fields, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and information technology. Other highlighted organizations include AstraZeneca, Bayer AG, DeepMind Technologies, Google Incorporated, Microsoft Inc., and Roche Holding.

BGI researchers have consistently been selected for Clarivate's annual Highly Cited Researchers list for ten consecutive years since 2015. The researchers were also named in Elsevier's Highly Cited Chinese Researchers 2023 list. These recognitions from global leading academic institutions affirm BGI's research excellence and academic influence in life sciences.
As of November 2024, BGI has published 5,340 research papers, including 642 in world-leading journals such as Cell, Nature,Science, and their sub-journals, as well as the New England Journal of Medicine. These publications demonstrate BGI's significant breakthroughs in scientific frontiers, including spatial-temporal omics, single-cell omics, organ regeneration, brain science, and animal and plant studies.
In the 2024 Nature Index annual rankings, BGI maintained its position as the top biological sciences corporate institution in the Asia-Pacific region and ranks eighth globally. This achievement marks BGI's ninth consecutive year as the leading institution in the Asia-Pacific biological sciences industry.
