During the ceremony, Ambassador Stefanović expressed appreciation for the remarkable support Serbia received from the BGI Group in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. The donations from BGI Group and the Mammoth Foundation enabled Serbia to obtain cutting-edge 'Huo-Yan' laboratories in Belgrade and Niš. The collaboration between BGI Group’s and Serbian scientists led to the establishment of the Center for Genome Sequencing and Bioinformatics at the University of Belgrade's Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) in late 2021.
