This visit by the Thai team comes as a positive response to the sincere invitation extended by Wang Jian and Yin Ye during their visit to Thailand.

In December 2022, when meeting with Wang Jian, the then Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, expressed his hope that BGI would continue to strengthen cooperation with Thailand in fields such as genomic medicine. Both parties agreed to enhance collaboration in areas of scientific research, health, agriculture, and talent development. Wang Jian also met with Professor Dr. Chanchai Sittipunt, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, and the representatives from the Medical Council of Thailand, to discuss the implementation of whole-genome projects, joint training programs, and to regularly review the progress of these projects.

In February 2023, Yin Ye, on behalf of BGI Group, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University on cooperation in spatiotemporal omics and talent development. Yin stated that the application of spatiotemporal omics technology and the update of ultra-high throughput sequencing would bring new development opportunities to life sciences, and BGI is willing to work with the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University in various fields.

Professor Dr. Sittipunt expressed his anticipation of spatiotemporal omics technology in areas such as cancer research and cell therapy. He hopes that the cooperation with BGI will further strengthen research and teaching capabilities and cultivate local talent.

Yin Ye also visited the Medical Council of Thailand and the Chulabhorn Hospital to discuss plans for cooperation in scientific research, joint training, and precision medicine, and agreed to organize a delegation of representatives from nine Thai research institutions to visit BGI headquarters.

This year marks the 20th year of BGI Group's partnership with Thailand. The group has been continuously expanding and deepening its cooperation with various Thai sectors, starting from multiple fields. BGI will continue to support the integrated innovation and development of Thailand's life sciences in industry, academia, and research, further collaborating with various Thai parties to promote genomics technology for the benefit of Thailand and humanity at large.
