Delegation from Top Japanese Universities Visits BGI Group to Strengthen Strategic Research Cooperation

On August 16, a distinguished delegation representing the University of Tokyo, and Showa University, along with representatives from the Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou, visited BGI Group to explore and strengthen strategic avenues for academic and research collaboration. The delegation included Professor Hiroshi Takayanagi and Assistant Researcher Ling Rui from the University of Tokyo, Professor Masayuki Tsukasaki from Showa University, and Consul General Yoshiko Kijima. 


Yin Ye, CEO and Executive Director of BGI Group, and other executives welcomed the delegation and engaged in productive discussions focused on expanding collaborative efforts in genomics research. Wang Shi, Honorary Advisor to the BGI Group, also attended the event.

A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BGI Group and the University of Tokyo’s School of Medicine, represented by Prof. Hiroshi Takayanagi, Chair of the Immunology Department. The MoU outlines a commitment to establishing academic and research exchange programs and furthering collaborative research efforts between the institutions. Furthering this commitment, BGI Group will provide bioinformatics analysis and experimental support for joint research projects. The collaboration will also utilize cutting-edge technologies such as BGI’s Stereo-seq and related spatial-transcriptomic tools.



Consul General Yoshiko Kijima emphasized that science transcends borders. She expressed delight at witnessing the signing ceremony and conveyed her enthusiasm for the scientific advancements that she believes will undoubtedly result from the collaboration between BGI Group and the esteemed Japanese universities.


The visit concluded with a shared commitment from all parties to advance scientific research through collaborative endeavors. This strategic partnership holds immense promise for groundbreaking discoveries in genomics and related fields, ultimately benefiting the global scientific community.
