BGI Hosts Successful Second International Summer Workshop, Advancing Global Talent and Innovation

BGI Group has successfully hosted the Second BGI International Summer Workshop, proven its commitment to shaping the future of life sciences. Bringing together bright minds from around the world, this immersive event offered participants a unique blend of cutting-edge scientific exploration, hands-on learning, and cross-cultural exchange.

This event, held over five days, brought young scholars and professionals from 12 countries. The workshop provided a dynamic platform for participants to engage with leading experts in the fields of life sciences, multi-omics technologies, and bio-industry applications.


Building an International Platform for Talent Development

The workshop aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the integration of research, education, and industry, offering them a unique opportunity to explore the practical applications of omics technologies in the industry. Through a series of lectures, hands-on training, and cultural experiences, participants were encouraged to break disciplinary boundaries, enhance their knowledge of Chinese science and culture, and lay the groundwork for future international collaboration.


Exploring the Frontiers of Life Sciences

The participants took the tours of major facilities and laboratories, including BGI Global Headquarters, the China National GeneBank, and the innovative agricultural base of BGI Bioverse. Through detailed presentations and on-site visits, participants gained insights into BGI's cutting-edge technologies and achievements, as well as its open and inclusive approach to international collaboration.

Advancing Knowledge through Big Science Programs and Multi-omics Technologies

 

BGI has led and participated in several international Big Science programs, continuously deepening exchanges and cooperation with scientists both domestically and internationally, to explore cutting-edge scientific issues concerning humanity. Participants explored the broad applications of Multi-omics technologies in fields such as biomedicine and environmental science, gaining practical experience in techniques like cell resuscitation, cryosectioning, and data analysis. This lecture enabled participants to learn about the paradigm of the Big Science Program, which differs from traditional research methods. Through real-world cases, they gained a deep understanding of the design and implementation processes of the Big Science Program and how to effectively build global scientific alliances.

Exploring the Applications and Future Prospects of Multi-omics

In the special training session on the application of Multi-omics technologies in precision medicine, health assessment, and other fields. Participants toured early cancer screening and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) production lines, gaining first-hand knowledge of how these cutting-edge technologies are being integrated into clinical practice. They also explored the latest advancements in microbiome technologies, forensic science, and cell therapies, broadening their academic and practical skills.

Floating Salon

At the Floating Salon, held as part of the BGI International Summer Workshop, participants were inspired by the incredible achievements of the BGI Scientific Mountaineering Team, led by Wang Jian, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BGI Group, who successfully summited Mount Everest and transmitted the world's first ultrasound and EEG data from the peak. Team members shared their experiences and insights into the deep connection between human exploration and life sciences, highlighting how extreme environments can drive scientific breakthroughs. This event encouraged participants to embrace the spirit of exploration and persistence in their own scientific endeavors.
