The Delegation of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) Visits BGI Group’s Global Headquarters

On April 17, a delegation led by H.E. Dr. Eddy Soeparno, Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI), visited the BGI Center, BGI Group’s global headquarters, in Shenzhen, China. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Wang Min, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Dr. Ben Perkasa Drajat, Consul General of Indonesia in Guangzhou. Dr. Liu Siqi, Co-founder, Member of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BGI Group; Dr. Du Yutao, Chief Operating Officer of BGI Genomics; and Mr. Cao Sujie, BGI Group’s Southeast Asia Regional General Manager, were among the hosts.

The Indonesian delegation received an overview of BGI Group’s recent breakthroughs in frontier technologies, including proprietary genomic sequencing, spatiotemporal omics, and DNA synthesis technologies. They also learned about the promotion of perennial rice in China and Indonesia, as well as BGI Group’s significant progress in the prevention and control of thalassemia.


During the discussions, Mr. Cao Sujie highlighted the ongoing collaboration between BGI Group and Indonesia in research innovation, disease prevention, food security, and marine resources. The delegation also observed demonstrations of the company’s latest imagine systems.


Dr. Liu Siqi expressed BGI Group’s commitment to leveraging its platform and technological advantages to benefit Indonesia in line with its national priorities. Deputy Chairman Soeparno congratulated BGI Group on its achievements in Indonesia and looked forward to expanding cooperation across various fields, pledging further support from the Indonesian side.

Deputy Chairman Soeparno also held a cordial exchange with Indonesian students studying at BGI Group through a joint program with the University of Indonesia, encouraging them to make the most of their studies in China and to contribute to Indonesia’s scientific and technological advancement in the future.

Over the years, BGI Group and Indonesia have developed a close partnership aimed at making advanced technologies accessible to the public. In February 2025, BGI Group’s Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Wang Jian visited Indonesia, meeting with Dr. Satrio Sumantri Brodjonegoro, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, and Dr. Azhar Jaya, Director General for Health Services at the Ministry of Health. The meetings included visits to partner organizations, hospitals, and research institutions, further deepening cooperation in rare disease screening, joint talent development, and comprehensive genomics collaboration.

In February 2023, BGI Group CEO and Executive Director Dr. Yin Ye and Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, inaugurated a joint medical laboratory in Indonesia. Later that year, Minister Budi visited BGI Group in China, where he held in-depth discussions on disease prevention and basic research, and expressed appreciation for BGI Group’s longstanding achievements in life sciences.
