1,000 Plants (1KP) project aims to sequence and assemble about 1000 plant transcriptomes using next-generation sequencing technology.

1,000 Plants (1KP) project aims to sequence and assemble about 1000 plant transcriptomes using next-generation sequencing technology. BGI is one of the major members of the project. The completion of the program will greatly enrich the transcriptome resources of plants in public databases and lay the foundation for the study of the biology and evolutionary history of plants. The second phase of the program will focus on exploring the direction of industrial application development of the above research results.

GenBank data shows that so far, less than 100 plants have sequencing data (including EST data). This research project will greatly expand our understanding of plant diversity.
